18-23. CTE Teacher Externship Program
Recognizing that hands-on industry experience enhances the quality of classroom instruction, the Career Connected Learning Joint Committee make all reasonable efforts to establish a Teacher Externship Program for CTE licensed educators instructing an approved CTE program. This program will be designed to allow educators to engage with industry professionals and gain insights and techniques that can be applied directly to their teaching practices. The goal of the committee’s evaluation is to identify opportunities, challenges, and potential partnerships that would support the implementation of the program. The findings will provide actionable recommendations to guide decision-making and ensure alignment with industry needs and educational objectives. The committee will present its final report by June 30, 2026.
- Participation in externships shall be voluntary and. Teachers shall be paid at the non instructional rate if externships occur outside duty hours.
- The BOARD and the UNION, through the Joint Committee on Career Connected Learning, will set parameters for participation in the program including but not limited to: determining the number of teachers that may participate each year, the maximum number of hours required for participation, creating an application review process, and investigate way to share costs associated with the program.
