27-5. Rescheduling of Preparation Periods Due to Class Coverage

The BOARD agrees, in principle, that teachers, during their duty-free professional preparation periods, shall not be requested to take the class of an absent teacher. Whenever a teacher’s duty-free professional preparation period is canceled, the principal shall schedule a make-up duty-free professional preparation period for that teacher by the end of the next academic quarter following, or by the last day of teacher attendance that school year, whichever occurs first, to the extent practicable. Effective with the 2017-2018 school year and thereafter, if cancelled self-directed preparation periods are not made up in accordance with this Article, they shall be considered lost. The BOARD shall pay the teacher for the lost preparation period at their his/her regular hourly rate no later than the start of the next school year.

27-5.1. Annual Review, Initial Eligibility, and Triennial Evaluation Meetings During Special Education Teachers’ Self-Directed Planning Time

Effective SY2025-2026, two annual review, initial eligibility, or triennial evaluations meetings per month may be scheduled during a special education teacher’s self-directed planning time. If more than two annual review, initial eligibility, or triennial evaluations meetings are scheduled in a month during self-directed planning time, the additional annual review, initial eligibility, or triennial evaluations meetings may take place during a special education teacher’s self-directed planning period; however, the principal shall schedule a make-up duty-free preparation period for that special education teacher by the end of the next academic quarter or by the last day of teacher attendance that school year, whichever occurs first. If the self-directed preparation periods are not made up in accordance with this article, they shall be considered lost, and the Board shall pay the special education teacher for the lost preparation period at their hourly rate no later than the start of the following school year.
