46-4. Bilingual Education Teachers
46-4.1. Bilingual and ESL Endorsement Tuition.
The BOARD and the UNION acknowledge the need for endorsed Bilingual Certified Teachers to ensure English Learners receive services required by state and federal law. The BOARD will offer 100% reduced tuition opportunities consistent with the Board’s Tuition Support Policy with 300 teacher slots available each year at partner universities for teachers to earn their Bilingual or ESL endorsement. Priority for these slots will be given to networks with critical shortages and equitably distributed between all content areas, including art and Physical Education. If a teacher does not finish the program they are enrolled in to receive their Bilingual or ESL endorsement, after starting the program and the Board issuing payment, within 2 years the teacher will reimburse the Board for the tuition paid. Teachers can be exempt from repayment in situations of undue hardship with approval from the Chief Talent Officer.
46-4.2. Job Duties and Postings.
The Bilingual Committee shall collaborate with the Talent Office to provide input on achieving greater clarity on job duties for bilingual/ESL/DL job postings on the district’s application tracking system.
